You got something to say?! Then say it.

"My style conjures Miles Davis' trademark turn-his-back-on-an-audience move: meticulous yet indifferent, practiced yet impromptu, avant-garde yet classic---a "bitches brew" if you will."

That quote makes my heart sing. True passion for style makes the world better place.

DO IT!

I mean, I think it goes without saying but just in case you don't know.  If I think I look remotely cute in my outfit on any given day, in rain, sleet or snow....I will sashay my ass up and down the streets like it's my runway. I usually stop, look away and look back but I figure that's a bit much so I save it for just the summer months. By sashay I mean option b...in a showy manner...but that goes without saying.

You have been warned.

Stay awake

I'm inspired by nature mostly. Inspired by the change of seasons, the sun, moon, music, water and most importantly emotions.

I am inspired by my ancestors, my roots, everything tribal simultaneously with the person I want to become. A refined, sophisticated socialite, power player and Mogul. Everything I create is a balance that allows you to recognize each and me in between.

There was a time where everything I wore had a hole, was cut, distressed, torn, ripped and that was a direct reflection of how I felt about myself and where I was in my life. (Just speaking about myself and not the trend.)

Today my wardrobe consists of pieces that are structured, edgy, strong, no-nonsense and authoritative. A combination of a business woman and a warrior. A structured blazer paired with combat boots.

I am inspired by change.

I love this video because I love people who are bubbling with inspiration and passionate about their art so much that it borders insanity. Folks who can clearly break down how their brains work, their design process and how the multiple levels of their lives correspond with each other and inspire each other.

Isaac is a little nuts but a lot of what he says at the beginning of the video makes sense. The Rosie clip I don't get but hey, it works for his brain.

Whatever inspires you. Inspires you. Becomes you. Creates you. by Design.

Sometimes you feel like a nut

Bi
by s'aint yacque

Cus sometimes you need a gentle touch and sometimes you want to be flipped and reverse. AY!

OR The Two Faced Ring

For them bitches that pretend they your friends then talk about you behind your back cus they want your man. Ooooh!!!

OR!!! Cus she dated your girl and now pretends to be her BFF but it's really to keep her single and have her cake and eat it too. Ahhh!!!!

Ah man, I had soooo much fun in my 20s. Now life is all serious and stuff. 10 years ago I would've told you all the dirty details that have nothing to do with the ring but more to do with the fact that I lived for DRAMA. Drama used to inspire me but these days I'm allergic to it and only have two words in response: CHA CHING!!! or PAY ME!!! OH! and COCOLAH.com oh wait and SAY AHHH! in that order. Did I mention YakBlak?

This rings got enough DRAMA for me and you, your mama and your cousin too.

I designed and hand crafted this piece over 2 years ago. I've been meaning to reproduce and sell it but um...I have 15 other projects ahead of it. Soooo. blah blah blah. Here it is....FINALLY!

This ring is on some superhero shit. Transformer! More than meets the eye.

2010 is about versatility. duality. change as power. For example I started this post talking crazy and end with words of wisdom. See!? My Point EXACTLY.

Mother Punker

To commemorate International's Women's Day let's take a look at Vivienne Westwood.

If you're a hipster. You should know Vivienne Westwood.
If you've ever worn combat boots, leather motorcycle jacket, anything with studs, distressed jeans...you should know Vivienne Westwood.

If you're a catholic school girl research Ms Westwood and she'll transform how you feel about your uniform.
Ms Westwood has been called the creator of punk and although I'll give it to her for putting punk fashion on the runway. We all know punk (as a fashion statement and style) was born like most things fresh on the underground scene.

The punk movement was an outcry by the youth, a collective movement of rebellion through music, art, literature, movies and most visibly fashion. Punk which started in the early 70s was an expression of individuality. A style that could not be ignored in the streets of London or New York.

Today Ms Westwood continues to break rules, setting the runways on fire with her brash sense of humor and political views. Miss thing famously wore a sheer outfit sans underwear to receive her OBE from the Queen in 1992. Nuff said.

Despite her edge her hand is swift and graceful, creating pieces that shock but always with a twist of romanticism. Artful.

Peep the video as she breaks down how art on the other extreme of the spectrum influenced her newer collections.

Crack the code

Time for the Cocolah Fashion Challenge!!

This time around I decided to dust off and reissue the very first fashion challenge because if I don't say so myself it's a damn good one! Yup!

This image makes my creative juices flow! I can see myself on a yacht holding onto my straw hat with one hand, sipping on a glass of Sangria with the other. Oversized YakBlak sunnies blocking the sun, and the hate, (cus if you have a yacht real or imaginary, someones hating on you) I'm wearing tan linen pants rolled up with a white bikini top. My future six pack browning under the Mediterranean sun. Ah yes this is the good life. Yes indeed.

Huh? Oh yeah...like I was saying...

I see whites, neutrals, tans, browns, light blues, yellows, shades of orange,  a pop of color in place of yellow? pastels of course. (pastels are back ya'll) Textures from linens to velvets. Moods from soft and flowy to crisp white button downs. High contrast or monochromatic.

The point is: Be creative!!!

Insert motivational quote pulled out of thin air ala Oprah:

Creativity = freedom.

Example: Um hello I was just on my way to Morocco from Spain on my private yacht a few minutes ago. I was there shopping of course. I'm free as a bird and you're the wind beneath my wings.

This image is also my fashion forecast for the summer. Clean, crisp, minimalist and light. The polar opposite of this winters drab grays and all blacks...which I loved by the way.

The possibilities are endless. Now get to your closet and create an outfit!! Don't delay!
Submit to win@cooclah.com by 3/20/10! LET'S GO!!
