I asked her a few question about what keeps her inspired and about her design process in hopes of inspiring you to design, create and support the underground fashion movement!

So here's Julie Sanon telling you how it goes down J Wears style.


How long have you been designing J Wears Accessories?

The idea has brewing since 2005 but I officially became a registered business in July 2008.

When did you decide to become a handbag designer?

I graduated from NYU as a photography major and worked in the business. I have always loved fashion and accessories especially handbags. Since I could never afford a $1500 bag. I took a handbag class at FIT and loved it and decided to keep making what I loved.

What are some of the materials you use in your designs?

I mostly use textured and pony hair leathers with eye catching linings.

Where do you get your inspiration?

I get most of my inspiration from architecture; I design what I like to wear and see on other women.

How much time do you dedicate to your craft?

As much time as possible when I'm not working at my part time job. I try to sketch my ideas and swatch fabrics whenever I can.

What can we expect in the future of J Wears Accessories?

This winter I had a blast making mini pouches trimmed in mink which hung across the body on a "dookie rope chain".

Fall 2009, I see larger bags, butter soft leathers depicting edgy femininity.

What trend do you see in the future for underground fashion?

Trends remind me of trendy/mass market. I think underground fashion is about individuality, the complete opposite of trend. Items with a convertibility aspect which you can wear several ways. YOU decide how you want to rock it.

How would you define underground fashion?

The person who gravitates towards underground fashion is not about rules but is about "the style of no style". How you feel any given day speaks to how you express "you" in clothes and accessories.

Who wants to be a carbon copy? I can wake up one morning put on a $2 wife beater (Cocolah.com does not condone any type of spousal abuse), pair of levi, my dad's old Gazelles and one of my wallets as my pocketbook.

Underground fashion is about feeling comfortable in your own skin and showing it on the outside.

Any advice for the future designers?

Focus, explore and be true to yourself and your vision. No one knows what sells until it actually sells.
